Irene Buchbinder

Irene Buchbinder (Gottlieb), 102, of Somerset died March 23, 2013. She was born and raised in Bayonne, and had lived in Jersey City, Garwood, and Westfield before retiring to Venice, Fla., for 27 years and returning to New Jersey 10 years ago.

Mrs. Buchbinder began her career as a secretary with the Newark Board of Education. She retired in 1975 from the Division of Youth and Family Services.

She was a member of the New Jersey Club that met in Sarasota, Fla. From 1940 to 1942, she served as president of the sisterhood of Temple Beth-El in Cranford.

Predeceased by her husband, Milton, and a daughter, Susan Warshaw, she is survived by three daughters, Flora Buchbinder Cowen, Rona Buchbinder, and Gale Dillman; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services were held March 25 at Congregation B’nai Tikvah, North Brunswick, with arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to Easter Seals, the Lions Club, or the Red Cross.
