Irene Axelrod
Irene Axelrod (Pagowitz), 94, of Freehold died Jan. 17, 2016. Born and raised in Brooklyn, she lived in Plainview, NY, for 50 years before settling in New Jersey in 2005.
Mrs. Axelrod worked as a substitute teacher for children with special needs.
She was a graduate of Hunter College, where she studied French literature.
Predeceased by her husband, Isidore, she is survived by two sons, Robert of South Orange and Eliot of Bloomfield, Minn.; her daughter, Rita Naidech of Philadelphia; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 18 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Association for Adults with Developmental Disabilities.
