Ira Weiss

Ira Weiss, 67, of Springfield died Dec. 26, 2015. Born in Newark, he lived in Hillside before moving to Springfield in 1970. 

Mr. Weiss was the owner of Weiss Distributors for over 35 years, since its founding in 1978. Previously he was the owner of the Fabric and Knitting Center in Irvington for over 10 years. 

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. 

He served in the U.S. National Guard. 

He was a 20-year veteran of the Hillside Ambulance Squad. He was also a member of Temple Sha’arey Shalom of Springfield. 

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Cohen); his son, Daniel (Diane) of New Providence; his daughter, Lori (Peter) Rosenbaum of Short Hills; a brother, Gerald of Springfield; a sister, Barbara Kaplan of Charlotte, NC; and five grandchildren. 

Services were held Dec. 27 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
