Ira Freund

Ira Freund, 74, of Aberdeen died May 31, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, he was raised in Newark and Irvington, moving to Aberdeen 42 years ago.

Mr. Freund worked as a maintenance mechanic until he began to pursue his love of music by opening the Record Setter store in East Brunswick. He also became one of the largest record show promoters on the East Coast.

He graduated from Irvington High School in 1962.

He was a member of the Irvington Rescue Squad and Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Harriet (Needle); his son, Louis (Jennifer) of Toms River; his daughter, Dina (Rick) of Colonia; a brother, David of Union; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held June 3 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
