I am surprised and disappointed that the NJ Jewish News is carrying the “Dry Bones” cartoons in a paper that has consistently had a balanced editorial and reporting policy on today’s complicated domestic and foreign policy issues.
The Feb. 25 cartoon, “War is hell,” shows two soldiers who, after capturing the Taliban second in command, wonder whether he will tell them where Osama bin Laden is. One soldier says not until after he has been apprised “of his right to remain silent and consulted with his defense attorney.”
Running this strongly says that you prefer the Dick Cheney-Sarah Palin position that we should not be restricted in our use of water boarding or other coercive interrogation methods.
For a publication that has consistently supported the basic Jewish concepts of justice and responsibility, this is a discouraging inconsistency.
