Howard Scott Kaplan of Monroe Township died Jan. 28, 2015. Born in Newark, he grew up in Cranford and also had lived in Morris County.
Mr. Kaplan spent 25 years in the plastics industry in New Jersey and Orange County, Calif., before becoming a social studies teacher in Perth Amboy.
He graduated from Augusta Military Academy in Virginia and received his bachelor of arts degree in government from Windham College in Putney, Vt. He received a master’s degree from Antioch Graduate School of Education in Hanover, NH.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Shelly (Herman); three sons, Jason (Janis) of Union, Michael (Heather) of Boston, and Alex of Parsippany; and a sister, Ellen (Mark) Charles of Cranbury.
Services were held Feb. 1 with arrangements by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, North Brunswick.
