Holy ritual
Thank you for your meaningful column on brit mila (“Body and soul,” June 2). Brit mila is a powerful moment, a sacred and holy ritual that directly links us to 4,000 years of our people’s history. This is especially compelling when I have the honor of performing a bris for a family from the former Soviet Union who were denied this basic right for many years.
There is very little that we do as Jews that is as basic and important than a bris. We have fought and sacrificed for the right to practice our religion, and it is important that our young generation not be dissuaded from continuing this meaningful and sacred rite.
