Herman Yeager

Herman Yeager, 97, of Elizabeth died Dec. 12, 2010. Born in Czechoslovakia, he was a Holocaust survivor who came to the United States in 1949, settling in Newark and later in Irvington and Hillside before moving to Elizabeth 10 years ago.

Mr. Yeager worked as a baker with Pechter’s Bakery in Harrison for 27 years before retiring in 1974.

He was a founding member of the Hillside Jewish Center and a member of Congregation Ahavath Zion in Maplewood.

Predeceased by his wife, Rose, he is survived by three daughters, Estelle S. Handler, Judith S. Diamond, and Marsha Y. Schenker; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 13 at the Jewish Educational Center, Elizabeth, with arrangements by Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, Westfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey.
