Herman Finkle

Herman (Humpsey) Finkle, 90, of Ewing died April 6, 2014.

Mr. Finkle was a special education teacher and guidance counselor at Ewing High School for 30 years.

He graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1950 with a BA in psychology. He earned his letter in lacrosse and also played football during his years there. In 1966 he received a master’s degree in special education from Trenton State College. He also earned a degree in administration from Rutgers University.

He was stationed in the Army Medical Corps and trained as a ward nurse and an operating room technician during World War II.

He was president of the Ewing Township Education Association, and a member of the Mercer County Education Association and the NJEA. He was inducted into the Ewing High School Hall of Fame in 2008.

He served on the board of Greenwood House and was a trustee of Young Judaea. He also served in the Senior Citizens Golf Association. He was secretary-treasurer of School Persons Bowling League and a member of the Allenby Club.

Predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Renee Filin Finkle, he is survived by his brother and sisters-in-law, Sid and Jean Finkle and Muriel Finkle; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and -nephews. 

Services were held April 8 with arrangements by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, Ewing. Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics New Jersey, 3 Princess Rd., Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
