Henry Simon
Henry Simon, 100, died Feb. 16, 2012 in Danville, Calif. Born in Newark, he also had lived in South Orange and Palm Springs, Calif.
Dr. Simon practiced podiatry in Newark for 56 years.
Active in the Jewish community throughout his life, he was a founder and president of Congregation Beth El, South Orange. He also served as a national officer and president of the New Jersey region of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. He served as acting rabbi at the Long Beach Island Jewish Community Center for a number of summers.
After retiring to Palm Springs, he remained extremely active at Temple Isaiah. A lifelong bass player, he volunteered in an orchestra and played at various area venues.
Predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Amy Seidman Simon, in 2001, and his son Jon and grandson David, he is survived by three children; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 23 at Desert Memorial Park, Cathedral City, Calif.
