Helen Weiss
Helen S. Weiss of Upper Montclair died July 26, 2014.
As a humor scholar, Mrs. Weiss made presentations throughout the United States and in Edinburgh, London, Dublin, Hong Kong, and Singapore in conjunction with meetings of the National Council of Teachers of English and the International Reading Association. She was a freelance writer, and coedited with her husband, M. Jerry Weiss, eight anthologies for young adult readers. She began her career in the reference library of the American Broadcasting Company.
She graduated from Greensboro College.
She was an active member of Congregation Shomrei Emunah in Montclair.
She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Sharon Weiss, Frann Gersh, and Eileen Weiss; her son, Michael; a brother, Richard Schwartzbard; and two grandchildren.
Services were held July 28 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton.
