Helen Sue Abraham

Helen Sue Abraham (Schwartz), 86, of Long Branch died Oct. 3, 2014. She was raised in Nashville, Tenn., moving to Spokane, Wash., and to the Jersey shore in 1955. She lived in Wanamassa and Deal Park and later moved to Long Branch.

Mrs. Abraham studied chemistry and math at Vanderbilt University, where she earned a BS in 1949 and was invited to join the American Chemical Society. 

With her husband, she was a founding member of Temple Beth Torah (now Congregation Torat El), where she was active in the sisterhood for many years. She was cochair of the Youth Commission of the JCC in West Deal when its building opened and was a member of the Hollywood Golf Club, where she chaired the women’s golf committee. 

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Emanuel; two daughters, Lynn and Susan (Louis); two sons, Mark (Sandy) and Lee (Laurye); nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services were held Oct. 5 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Torat El.
