Helen Sampson
Helen “Honey” Sampson (Saperstein), 97, died Jan. 6, 2013. She was born in Woodbine and lived in Newark, West Orange, and Roseland for many years.
Mrs. Sampson was a founding member of The Jewish Center of West Orange (B’nai Shalom) and served as president of its sisterhood. She was a member of Congregation Agudath Israel, Caldwell, and a past member of Temple Beth Shalom of Livingston. She translated books into Braille for the Library of Congress.
Predeceased by her husband, Philip, she is survived by her daughter, Marji (Barry) Nydick; two sons, Marc (Regina Lieberman) and Steven (Shelley Press-Sampson); 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 7 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton.
