Hate in Highland Park
How can this be?
It is unbelievable that the Highland Park Public Library has extended an invitation to a proud BDS supporter, Golbarg Bashi, who refers to Israel as an apartheid and genocidal state and as a racist colony built on stolen land, to speak to children in our community (“Highland Park Jewish community not appeased by library compromise,” July 23).
How can this be — when the U.S. House of Representative by an overwhelming vote of 398-17 went on record opposing the Boycott, Divest, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and effectively tagged BDS supporters as anti-Semites?
How can this be — when on May 17, 2019, the German Parliament passed a resolution that designates the BDS movement against Israel as anti-Semitic?
How can this be — when, just a few days ago, the German University of Munster resolved that operating with BDS and its supporters is not acceptable because the BDS campaign against Israel represents a particularly aggressive expression of anti-Israel anti-Semitism, for which there can be no room at German universities?
And how can this be — in Highland Park, which prides itself on “no room for hate here,” that its library invites a speaker like this to address its toddlers?
At least the Germans are admitting their errors.
