Harvey Sherman

Harvey Sherman, 89, of Monroe Township died Dec. 16, 2017. He was born and raised in Leeds, England, and was drafted into the Royal Air Force at age 17 at the close of World War II. 

Trained as a professional tailor like his father and grandfather, after the end of the war, Mr. Sherman began his career in one of England’s most prestigious haberdasheries. Soon after, he immigrated to the United States, settling in Farmingdale. He married his wife in 1955, and after a short stint in Jamesburg, he moved to Lakewood, where he maintained a clothing store business. 

They closed their family business in 1987 and moved to Old Bridge, where he built a tailoring business. In 2005, he moved to Monroe. 

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances (Barkan); four sons, Barry, Mark, Randy, and Craig; daughters-in-law, Lynn, Brenda, Michele, and Helena; a sister, Miriam; and nine grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 18 at Congregation B’nai Tikvah, North Brunswick, with arrangements by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, New Brunswick.
