Harriet Schanen
Harriet Schanen (Kanarick), 90, of Monroe Township died March 1, 2015. She was born in the Bronx and moved to Linden to raise her family.
Mrs. Schanen, who graduated from high school at 16, worked first as a secretary, then as an interior designer, and later as a real estate agent.
She was passionate about politics and supported a wide range of charitable institutions.
Predeceased seven weeks earlier by her husband of 72 years, Nathan, and a son, Richard, she is survived by her daughter, Norlyn (Dennis) Kessler; a son, Mitchell (Debra); two brothers, Lenny and Bob Kanarick; a sister, Charlotte Rubin; and eight grandchildren.
Services were held March 3 with arrangements by Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan.
