Harold Tainow
Harold Tainow, 93, of Coconut Creek, Fla., died Nov. 29, 2012. He was born and grew up in Newark and lived in Irvington and Union until 1984, when he retired to Coconut Creek’s Wynmoor community.
Mr. Tainow graduated from Newark’s South Side High School in February 1936.
He was a World War II veteran who participated in the D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge with the Army Corps of Engineers.
In New Jersey, Harold was active in the Diogenes Lodge and the Knights of Pythias. At Wynmoor, he served as a president to the fishing club, where he actively supported the annual children’s tournament. He also built plexiglas furniture and table clocks.
He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Gilda (Schwartz); his son, Jon (Terry) of Westfield; his daughter, Nancy (Howard Wimmer) of Merion, Pa.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 2 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
