Harold Small
Harold S. Small, 89, of Whippany died April 28, 2018. Born in Passaic, he also lived in Basking Ridge and Morristown before moving to Whippany three years ago.
Dr. Small was clinical professor of anesthesia, Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, 1962-66; and an anesthesiologist at Morristown Memorial Hospital, 1966-97.
He graduated from University of Pennsylvania in 1950 and its Medical School in 1954, and completed his internship at Newark Beth Israel Hospital and residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
He served seven years in the Medical Corps and was stationed at Ft. Belvoir, Va. He retired with the rank of major.
He was cofounder of Congregation B’nai Israel in Basking Ridge and served twice as synagogue president.
He bred and raised Pembroke Welsh corgis with Ariel Kennel.
Predeceased by a daughter, Missy,
he is survived by his son, Bob of Burlington, Vt.; a daughter, Carol Small Jimenez of Rockville, Md.; two sisters, Edna of Washington, D.C., and Julie of New York City; a brother, David of Washington; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held April 30 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation B’nai Israel.
