Hannah “Honi” Weiss of Livingston died March 28, 2013. She was born and raised in Maplewood.
Mrs. Weiss’ initial career was as a preschool teacher for NJARC. She later became involved in the hospice movement in 1981 and helped establish the Hospice, Inc. after the death of her daughter, Donna.
She attended Skidmore College and graduated from Boston University. She continued her education at Kean University and received a master’s degree in special education.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Alvin; her daughter, Betsy (Frank); two brothers, Arthur and Herbert Zuckerman; and two grandchildren.
Her love of animals led to her involvement with the New Jersey Animal Coalition.
Services were held March 31 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to “Paws for Patients” canine pet therapy program at Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center or the NJ Animal Coalition.
