Gun control

Gun control

As an American and a Jew, I am offended by Pres. Donald Trump’s statements following the Pittsburgh massacre. By suggesting that an armed guard at the synagogue would have reduced the death toll, he is blaming the victims for not protecting themselves better.

Do Jews, or members of any group that may be targeted by a bigoted and/or mentally unstable person with access to firearms, need armed protection every time and every place we gather?

The solution is not more guns. It is common-sense gun control legislation, such as universal background checks and laws prohibiting purchases by people with a history of certain mental health problems.

The president and Republicans in Congress have over and over again refused to enact such legislation. I do not want to live in a country where armed protection is needed for every event.
