Grace Saferstein

Grace Saferstein (Dansky), 99, of Teaneck died Nov. 27, 2010. Born and raised in Omaha, Neb., she also lived in New York City before moving to Teaneck 62 years ago.

Mrs. Saferstein was a social worker at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital’s Neurological Institute from 1960 until her retirement in 1980.

She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and a master of social work from the New York Jewish School of Social Work.

She taught English to Russian immigrants as a volunteer after her retirement.

She was a member of the Jewish Center of Teaneck, and the Teaneck chapters of National Council of Jewish Women and Hadassah.

Predeceased by her husband, Harry, she is survived by her two sons, Jeremy of East Brunswick and Jonathan of Kibbutz Sasa, Israel; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 29 with arrangements by Gutterman-Musicant, Hackensack. Memorial contributions may be made to the Teaneck chapter of NCJW or East Brunswick Jewish Center.
