Gloria Trachtenberg
Gloria Trachtenberg (Topper), 89, of Howell died Feb. 8, 2018. She was born and raised in Newark, where she lived until moving to Hillside in 1962. She moved to Howell in 1988.
Mrs. Trachtenberg worked for ORT prior to and immediately after her marriage. For many years, she was a homemaker and provided administrative assistance for a local business. Later she was an administrative assistant for Kessleman, Weinberg and Soloway, CPAs and was an English Resource Center administrator at Hillside High School. She then became executive assistant to the lab director at Beth Israel Hospital until her retirement.
She graduated from Weequahic High School, Newark.
She served as Girl Scout troop leader in Hillside in the 1960s. She was a member of the Ladies Club at Temple B’nai Abraham and was treasurer of the Ladies Club of the Villages Condominium Association.
A three-time cancer survivor, she had been among the longest living survivors in the state at the time of her death.
Predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Jerome (“Jerry”), she is survived by her daughter, Linda (Carl) Huber of Swampscott, Mass.; two sons, Alan of Somerset and Michael (Fran) of Long Valley; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 12 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
