Gilbert Sugarman

Gilbert Sugarman, 87, of Boynton Beach and Delray Beach, Fla., died Oct. 17, 2013. Born in New York, he was a 50-year resident of Millburn.

Dr. Sugarman was an obstetrician-gynecologist on the medical staffs of St. Barnabas Medical Center, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, and Overlook Medical Center. He was former clinical chief of the St. Barnabas OB-GYN department, president of the New Jersey Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, chairman of Medical Credentials for CHN, and was active in multiple professional organizations. He was an active proponent of care for the needy, helped start medical clinics, and ran the OB-GYN clinic at Overlook Medical Center for several years.

He served as captain in the U.S. Army as a consultant to Com Z (USAREUR) in obstetrics and gynecology.

He was very active in Congregation B’nai Israel in Millburn, where he served on the board and was a past president. An avid tennis player and golfer, he was a past president of Twin Brooks Country Club in Watchung. He was also a past president of his Masonic lodge in New Jersey.

Predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Doris (Dollinger), he is survived by his wife of five years, Marjorie Ravis; two daughters, Beth Hersh of Springfield and Jill Sugarman of West Orange; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 20 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
