Gerald Coopersmith

Dr. E. Gerald Coopersmith, 79, of Bridgewater died Oct. 10, 2014.

An oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Coopersmith maintained his own practice in Roselle for 52 years.

A member of the emeritus staff of Rahway Hospital, he had served as chairman of its Department of Oral Surgery for 25 years. 

He was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Dental School, George Washington University, and the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Medicine. He was an intern and chief resident at Metropolitan Hospital in New York City.

He was a past president of the New Jersey Society of Oral Surgeons and a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.

He was a member of Hillel’s Angels Biker Club. 

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lee, cantor emeritus at Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston; two daughters, Geralyn Coopersmith (Evan Spinks) and Allison (Kent) Taylor; his son, Bryson; a brother, Henry; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 14 at Temple B’nai Abraham with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
