Frederic Bernstein

Frederic Bernstein, 86, of Morristown died Feb. 23, 2017. Born in New York City, he lived in Morristown for the past 58 years. 

Mr. Bernstein worked for the U.S. government for his entire career at the Picatinny Arsenal, retiring in 1994. 

A graduate of Bronx High School of Science, he held a B.S. from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. from New York University, both in mechanical engineering. 

He was a member and past president of Morris Choral Society of Morris County and a member and past financial secretary of Temple B’nai Or of Morristown. He was a baal tekiah (a ritual officiant responsible for blowing the shofar on the High Holy Days) for the synagogue, teaching many students how to perform the ritual. In high school and college, he was also a band leader and trombone player. 

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ricki (Luckton); two daughters, Melissa (Chris) Pickell of Flemington and Marcia (Keith) Waldman of Cherry Hill; and four grandchildren. 

A memorial service was held on Feb. 27 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Whippany.
