Frances Weiss

Frances Weiss (Simon), 103, of Wilmington, N.C., died May 15, 2018. She was born in Newark and also had lived in West Orange, North Carolina, and the Boca Raton/Delray Beach, Fla., area.

Mrs. Weiss had a lengthy career in the retail industry, ending with 25 years at Saks Fifth Avenue in Millburn.

She was active in organizations such as ORT and Hadassah, where she was the first president of the Hillside chapter. She continued her philanthropic work until age 91.

She was a master bridge player, participating in tournaments throughout New Jersey and Florida.

Predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Sidney, in 2002, she is survived by her daughter, Lyne (Steve) Glaser, and her son, Barry (Pam), all of Wilmington, N.C.; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five-great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Services were held on May 18 with arrangements by Coble Ward-Smith Funeral and Cremation Services, Wilmington. Memorial contributions may be made to B’nai Israel Hebrew Cemetery Fund.
