Frances Gordan
Frances Lifschitz Gordan, 102, of Piscataway died April 7, 2015. Born in Brooklyn, she moved to New Jersey as a young mother, and lived for many years in Fort Lee before moving to Highland Park for seven years and to Piscataway six months ago.
Active in the community, she was longtime president of the East Bergen chapter of Hadassah, vice president of the Fort Lee chapter of Deborah, a volunteer at Englewood Hospital, and a driver for Kosher Meals on Wheels. In her 70s she volunteered in Israel with the elderly population. She was a founder of the Fort Lee Jewish Center in 1954 and the New Synagogue of Fort Lee in 1993.
Predeceased by her husband, Walter, in 1955, she is survived by two daughters, Susan Marchand and Roberta (Harvey) Sohmer; three granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held April 9 with arrangements by Eden Memorial Chapels, Fort Lee. Memorial contributions may be made to Hadassah or Deborah through her daughters.
