Florence Samitt
Florence Rosengart Samitt, 80, of Wharton died Jan. 9, 2018. Born and raised in Brooklyn, she lived for many years in Parsippany, where she raised her family, before moving to Montville in 1991 and then to Wharton in 2017.
Mrs. Samitt raised three children while working as a bookkeeper.
She returned to school in her 40s, receiving her college degree in accounting from Montclair State University in 1987.
After retiring from accounting, she wrote numerous feature articles for her local newspaper. She was also an involved member of Temple Beth Am, Parsippany, for over 48 years. She volunteered with numerous organizations later in life.
Predeceased by a son, Mark, she is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bruce; her son, Craig Samitt (Steven Hart) of Phoenix; her daughter, Alison Samitt (Anthony Calcagni) of Falmouth, Maine; a daughter-in-law, Gayle Samitt of Woodcliff Lake; a brother, Bernie Rosengart of Edison; a sister, Arlene Banocy of Venice, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 11 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Beth Am.
