Federation responds to Sandy challenges

IN RESPONSE to the catastrophic aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, the Jewish Federation of Greater Middlesex County has opened its office at 230 Old Bridge Turnpike in South River to the community, and is offering those in need of warmth, power, or Internet service a place to go, weekdays 9-5 p.m.

“Federation is here to serve and meet the immediate needs of the community,” said federation president Seth S. Gross.

Federation is also collecting and distributing donated funds and basic living supplies to those in need. County residents who require assistance or know anyone who needs help should contact federation at 732-588-1800 or info@jf-gmc.org.

To address evolving needs as a result of the storm, federation is changing the focus of its “Community Action Day” on Nov. 18. The event will provide information and assistance in recovery and rebuilding efforts and will offer opportunities for residents to meet with representatives from local and state agencies. The venue will also provide a clearinghouse for donated supplies.

Please note: Federation’s annual “Super Sunday” phonathon has been rescheduled to Jan. 13, 2013.

“Due to the fluid nature of this situation, we will continue to update the community as more information becomes available,” said Gross. “I encourage anyone in need to contact federation so we can provide assistance or connect them with agencies that can help.”
