Mt. Freedom Jewish Center will host a brunch featuring Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, the founder and lead solicitor of Shurat HaDin, Israel Law Center. She will speak about “Fighting Terrorism and Protecting Israel through International Lawsuits,” on Sunday, April 30, at 11 a.m.
By filing lawsuits in courts around the world — including in the United States and countries in Europe — Shurat HaDin is using litigation to go on the legal offensive against Israel’s enemies.
Rabbi Menashe East, spiritual leader of Mt. Freedom Jewish Center, notes the timely relevance of this program, saying that while “these are dangerous times for Israel and the safety of world Jewry…Shurat HaDin reminds us that we are not defenseless.”
Representing hundreds of families of terror victims, Shurat HaDin has won billions of dollars in lawsuit verdicts against Iran and Syria for their roles in sponsoring terrorism.
Shurat HaDin has also filed lawsuits on behalf of 20,000 Israelis against the social media giant Facebook for its failure to identify and delete known terrorist accounts that incite terrorism.
In January, Shurat HaDin took on Twitter. The new lawsuit, on behalf of the families of two victims of terror attacks in Paris and Brussels, alleges Twitter aided and abetted ISIS in carrying out attacks that killed nearly 200 people and injured hundreds more.
Shurat HaDin also combats the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement — working to support legislation to prohibit and penalize boycotts, exposing organizations that fund BDS activities, and filing legal challenges against unions and academic societies that implement BDS activities.
Darshan-Leitner was identified by Forbes Israel as one of the Fifty Most Influential Israeli Women of 2016; by The Jerusalem Post as one of the Most Influential Jews in the world in 2014; and by Algemeiner as one of the Top 10 Living Jewish Women Role Models in 2015.
“We are thrilled that Nitsana will be speaking at our shul, and urge everyone to join us in learning about Shurat HaDin’s work and supporting this extraordinary organization,” said event organizer Linda Cahn.
The cost is $18. RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 973-895-2100.
