Sustainable Israel: Diaspora Engagement through Sustainability

December 15, 2018 , 11:00 am

Free

Jay Shofet, Director of Partnerships and Development at the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI), will present “Sustainable Israel: Diaspora Engagement through Sustainability” during Shabbat services. His appearance is sponsored by the synagogue’s Israel and Environmental Committees and Caldwell’s and Livingston’s Hadassah.

Shofet, a long-time activist and professional in the environmental movement, will focus on Israel’s advancements in conservation in relation to the trends of a “start-up nation.” He will discuss the development of a new ethos of dense, sustainable cities, how the push for renewable energy is fighting against entrenched economic interests, the threat to Israel’s biodiversity, and SPNI’s work protecting Israel’s natural resources. In addition to his talk during services at about 11:00 a.m., Shofet will appear at a Lunch ‘n’ Learn session afterward.

SPNI (https://natureisrael.org/aspni) is the oldest and largest environmental nonprofit organization in Israel. Since 1953, SPNI has dedicated itself to protecting and preserving Israel’s natural resources, environment, and unique landscape through education, activism, and advancing the love of nature. SPNI works with policy makers and young people, across the country and in all sectors, to create a sustainable future for Israel, protecting and harnessing Israel’s natural resources for current and future generations.
