Evelyne Lerner
Evelyne Lerner (Petlock), 94, of West Orange died April 13, 2016. Born in Newark, she lived in Maplewood, West Orange, and Springfield before moving back to West Orange many years ago.
Mrs. Lerner was a senior citizen recreational therapist at Inglemoor Care Center in Livingston before retiring.
She was valedictorian at South Side High School in Newark. She earned an associate degree in gerontology from Kean University while she was in her 70s.
She was a member of Women’s American ORT and the sisterhood of Congregation Beth El of South Orange.
Predeceased by her husbands, Edward Lerner and Murray Savel, she is survived by three daughters, Diane Lerner-Cressell (significant other Robert VanNatta) of Everett, Wash., Barbara Lerner Silverman of West Orange, and Gail (Angelo) Ramon of Verona; her son, Alan (Maria Higgins) of Concord, NH; a sister, Anne Storfer of Boca Raton, Fla.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services were held April 15 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
