Evelyn R. Shakin, 102, of Bethesda, Md., died Sept. 26, 2015. Born in Jersey City, she lived from 1955 to 2001 in Bloomfield before moving to Bethesda 14 years ago.
Mrs. Shakin taught foreign languages for 19 years at Memorial High School in Cedar Grove.
She attended Coker College and graduated from New York University.
She was a founding member of Temple Menorah, now Temple Ner Tamid in Bloomfield.
Predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Irving, she is survived by her daughter, Susan Gittelman of Lake Worth, Fla.; her son, Alan of Bethesda; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 29 with arrangements by Sagel Bloomfield Danzansky Goldberg Funeral Care Inc., Rockville, Md. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Ner Tamid.
