Evelyn Chernichaw Hausman, 87, of Johnson City, Tenn., died Feb. 6, 2012. Born in Newark, she spent most of her life in Hillside and Elizabeth before moving to Tennessee in 2005.
Mrs. Hausman worked as an accountant and bookkeeper for various NJ firms, including her family’s business, Pied Piper Ice Cream in Hawthorne.
She was a 1942 graduate of Central High School, Newark, and was named valedictorian of her graduating class; she was also awarded that year’s Bamberger medal for most outstanding high school student. She then studied accounting at University of Newark, now Rutgers-Newark.
She is survived by her son, Ed of Gray, Tenn.; two daughters, Marsha Candela of Albuquerque, NM, and Helaine Hausman of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 7 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston.
