Ethel Sommer (Heikoff), 98, of Pompano Beach, Fla., died April 7, 2019. She was born in Brooklyn and spent half of her married life in Harrisburg, Pa., before retiring to Florida.
Mrs. Sommer was an avid tennis player in her younger years and enjoyed reading, gardening, and needlepointing.
Predeceased by her husband, David, she is survived by two daughters, Ellen (Alan) Goldner and Judy (Mark) Shankman; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held April 8 with arrangements by Star of David Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Chapel, North Lauderdale, Fla. Memorial contributions may be made to Israel Tennis Centers (New York City office), Dave Sommer Ethiopian Empowerment Program, or JAFCO (Jewish Adoption and Family Care Options).
