Esther Sharnak

Esther (Eileen) Sharnak, 85, of Monroe Township died Sept. 20, 2011. Born in Brooklyn to Isaac and Dora Scherer, she resided in Massapequa, NY, where she raised her family.

Mrs. Sharnak was a retired schoolteacher who spent 27 years teaching in Lindenhurst, NY.

After attending college, she married and raised four children while continuing her education. She was very active in the community as a volunteer for many Jewish and local organizations.

Predeceased by her husband, Jack, she is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Charney of Livingston, Roberta Sharnak of San Rafael, Calif., and Allyne Dember of Lawrenceville; her son, Lawrence of East Brunswick; a sister, Helen Greenfield of Massapequa, NY; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services were held Sept. 22 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, Hadassah, or UJA.
