Ernest Weiss
Ernest Weiss, 83, of Somerset died Feb. 24, 2017. He was born April 14, 1933, in Hencocve, near Vranov, CSSR. His mother died when he was three and his father perished at Mauthausen a decade later. He and his two sisters arrived in the United States in 1947.
A self-employed labor arbitrator for more than 35 years, despite leaving school after eighth grade to work, Mr. Weiss eventually returned to his studies and received a master’s degree in education and labor studies from Rutgers University. In addition to serving various labor unions in New York and New Jersey, his career included working as a ski instructor and electrician.
He was an avid dancer and skier in his younger years, and was also very active in musical theater, singing as a dramatic tenor in many productions.
He is survived by his son, Noah (Selmin); two sisters, Olga Fried and Gabrielle Kessler-Tracy; and two grandsons.
