Ernest Morgenstern

Ernest “Ernie” H. Morgenstern, 91, of Boynton Beach, Fla., died Feb. 18, 2016. Born in Newark, he also lived in Livingston and maintained a home in North Beach, Long Beach Island.

Mr. Morgenstern graduated from Weequahic High School in Newark at age 16 before beginning his bachelor’s degree at Columbia. After enlisting in the U.S. Army at 18 and serving in both the European and Pacific theaters during World War II, he completed his degree and earned an MBA. 

He initially worked at New York Telephone Co. in accounting, and enjoyed a long career with New York Telephone and AT&T, retiring in 1986.

An active member of his Livingston temple, he was a past treasurer and honorary president of its B’nai B’rith Men’s Club and was a member of its bowling team. 

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sylvia; his daughter, Michelle Morgenstern (Jim Swaim) of Brookline, Mass.; his son, Gary (Dale) of East Hanover; a sister, Marjorie Glassman of Delray Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren. 

Services were held Feb. 21 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. Memorial contributions may be made to Deborah Hospital Foundation.
