Elsie Stelzer

Elsie Isidora Stelzer (Rosen), 92, of Mount Pocono, Pa., died May 13, 2013. Born in Manhattan, she had also lived in Queens, Jersey City, Teaneck, and Maplewood.

Mrs. Stelzer worked as a bookkeeper prior to her marriage and also assisted in the family business, Rosen Decorators of Jersey City.

She was an active member of many synagogues throughout her life, most notably during her years in Teaneck, when she and her husband opened their home for charitable endeavors. In the Poconos, she was a member of Temple Israel and the JRC in Stroudsburg. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah and a member of the National Council of Jewish Women.

She was active in the 1960s civil rights movement and was an expert at creating needlepoint tapestries.

Predeceased by her husband of 66 years, E. Norman, in 2009, she is survived by two sons, Leigh (Patricia Farley) of Mount Pocono and Adam of Chestnut Ridge, NY; two daughters, Deborah (Julius) Rosen and Esther (Steven) Farron, both of Florida; a brother, Herman; six grandchildren; and two stepgrandsons.

Services were held May 14 with arrangements by the William H. Clark Funeral Home, Stroudsburg, Pa.
