Ellen Mandy (Zarett), 86, of Plainfield died July 28, 2016. Born in Jersey City, she lived for many years in Hillside before moving to Iselin. After retirement she lived in Deerfield Beach, Fla., for 16 years before returning to New Jersey in 2007.
Mrs. Mandy worked at Hillside High School as a Resource Center aide for six years and at the YM-YWHA of Union County, Union, until retiring in 1991.
She was an active member of the Hurden-Looker School PTA from 1957 to 1975, serving as a classroom mother and an officer with the roles of president, vice president, and secretary. She was a past member of Hillside Hadassah and the American Legion Post 50 Auxiliary.
Predeceased by her husband, Bernard, in 2006, she is survived by two sons, Steven (Debbie) of Rahway and Jack (Donna) of Hillside; two daughters, Jeri Mandy Buckholt (Tom) of New Windsor, Conn., and Dana Mandy (Greg) of Clark; a sister, Phoebe Zarett Sottolano of Jersey City; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 31 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
