Elaine Treuhaft

Elaine Harriette Treuhaft (Harris), 92, of Montrose, Calif., died Feb. 21, 2015. Born in Newark, she lived in Livingston for nearly 55 years before moving to California.

Mrs. Treuhaft was a dietician in the bread-baking unit of Wallace & Tiernan. After her husband’s death, she worked at the Garden State Tire Company in East Hanover and later as a Social Security representative for 11 years.

She attended Weequahic High School, Newark, and earned a bachelor’s degree in dietary science at Drexel Institute of Technology (today Drexel University) in Philadelphia. She also undertook graduate studies at Teachers College, Columbia University. 

In Livingston, she was a member of the Livingston Music Group and a longtime member of Temple Beth Shalom. She was also active in school PTAs and belonged to the League of Women Voters.

Predeceased by her husband, Milton (Mike), in 1959, she is survived by her daughter, Laurie Treuhaft of Queens; her son, Robert of La Cañada, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services were held March 1 at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Fairview. Memorial contributions may be made to WQXR or any other classical or jazz station; The Animal Medical Center, New York City; Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, East Hanover; or any other animal humane society.
