Elaine Chester

Elaine Chester (Chaiet), 70, of Union died Oct. 26, 2013. Born in Jersey City, she lived in Philadelphia and Waukegan, Ill., before moving to Union in 1968.

Mrs. Chester was a high school teacher in Jersey City, then a junior high school teacher in Haddonfield before returning to teaching mathematics to high school students at Union Township High School for four years. While at Union High she formed a theater appreciation club and with her husband, Doug, took many students to Broadway performances.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

She was a volunteer for the Jewish Family Service and the Union Township Public Library.

She was a life member of Hadassah, a member of the Women’s League of Temple Beth Ahm Yisrael and a member of the Organization for Rehabilitation through Training (ORT).

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Douglas; and two sons, Adam and Jeffrey (Joyce Chin); two brothers, Ralph and Alvin Chaiet; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Oct. 28 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
