Edward Miller

Edward Miller, 95, of West Orange died Aug. 24, 2017. Born in Newark, he lived in Irvington and Elizabeth before moving to his latest residence 10 years ago.

Mr. Miller was a teacher and administrator at New Jersey Institute of Engineering for 40 years. He retired in 1987. He also served as an associate dean, acting dean, department administrator associate, department chair, acting chair, and lecturer at New Jersey Institute of Technology. He was widely known in the engineering field as a guest lecturer, author, and visiting professor.

He received a BSME from Newark College of Engineering. He received master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from University of Delaware, in engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, and in aero engineering from New York University.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

In 1988 he received the NJIT Allan R. Cullimore Distinguished Service Award. 

He received the Spirit of Bicycling Award for cycling more than 5,000 miles per year from the Central Jersey Bicycle Club.

In 1989 he spent time as a volunteer working at a hospital near Tel Aviv.

Predeceased by his wife, Frances, he is survived by two nieces, Suzanne (Levinson) Samelson and Eileen (Levinson) Bergman; two great-nephews; a great-niece; and a great-grandniece.

Services were held Aug. 28 with arrangements by Prout Funeral Home, Verona. Memorial contributions may be made to NJIT Scholarship Endowment (njit.edu).
