Edward Kleiner

Edward Kleiner, 99, of Wall Township died Feb. 20, 2017. Born in Tarnapol, Poland, he survived the Holocaust in the Kamionka work camp in Poland and later spent a year in an underground bunker trying to evade the Nazis.

Immigrating to the United States with his late wife, Ingeborg, and with $7 in each of their pockets, Mr. Kleiner settled in Brooklyn. Later he moved to Chatham for 45 years before moving to Wall about eight years ago.

He founded a home building and construction company that developed several properties.

He was a member of the Home Builders Association of America and New Jersey.

Predeceased by Ingeborg in 2010, he is survived by his wife, Iris (Koehler); two sons, Myron (Hannah) of Lloyd Harbor, N.Y., and Stewart Kleiner of Long Branch; a brother, Leon Kleiner of South Orange; and four grandchildren.

Services were held Feb. 22 with arrangements by Ross’ Shalom Chapels, Springfield.
