Edgar Goldenthal

Edgar Joseph Goldenthal, 94, of Monroe Township died Dec. 27, 2011. He also had lived in Yonkers, NY; Manhattan; West Orange; and Marlboro. He spent summers at the Colony Beach Club in New Rochelle, NY; at Tamiment in the Poconos; and at the Garden State Yacht Club, Lake Hopatcong.

Dr. Goldenthal was a dentist in New York City for 53 years.

He graduated from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1936 and from the University of Pennsylvania’s College of Dentistry in 1940.

A major in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, he spent 44 months in the South Pacific during World War II.

He was chair of the 7th Zionist District, founded Westchester Chapter of Americans for Democratic Action, and taught at 1st District Dental Society and at Lynn University.

A writer of plays, musicals, essays, and poems, he published three books. He was also a sculptor and inventor.

Predeceased by his wife, Janice Berkowitz Goldenthal, he is survived by three sons, Michael, Mark, and Jonathan; and eight grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 29 with arrangements by Riverside Memorial Chapel.
