Dorothy Prestup

Dorothy Prestup (Zalkin), 94, of Maplewood died Sept. 26, 2010. She was born in and lived for most of her life in Kearny.

A homemaker, she was a member of Congregation B’nai Israel of Kearny and its sisterhood and the Kearny chapter of Hadassah. She volunteered as a Braille teacher and transcriber for the American Red Cross, specializing in children’s books.

Predeceased by her husband, Herbert, she is survived by her son, Norman of North Arlington; her daughter, Jill Eltrick of Venice, Calif.; and her sister, Florence Bohen of Maplewood.

Services were held Sept. 29 with arrangements by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton. Memorial contributions may be made to American Alzheimer’s Association, Chicago; or the American Red Cross, Fairfield.
