Donald Shachat

Donald Mitchell Shachat, 83, of Hoboken died Dec. 13, 2017. Born and raised in Newark, he also lived in East Orange and then in Hoboken for 40 years; he also had a vacation home in Woodstock, N.Y. 

Mr. Shachat was employed by L.J. Gonzer Technical Services Corp. in Newark as a controller and by the Newark Chamber of Commerce. 

He attended Weequahic High School in Newark and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. 

He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1958 in intelligence. 

He dedicated much of his time to multiple philanthropic and charitable endeavors.

He is survived by his husband, William Wisneski; a brother, Joseph; nieces and nephews Andrew, Michael, and Melissa; sisters and brothers-in-law; and grandnieces and -nephews.

Services were held Dec. 17 with arrangements by Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. Memorial contributions may be made to MDS Foundation.
