Dolores Dakelman (Yadkowsky), 88, of Sandy Spring, Md., died April 11, 2019. She grew up in Newark and lived in Maplewood most of her life and also West Orange.
Mrs. Dakelman taught second grade in Union and special education in Irvington and was a substitute teacher in South Orange-Maplewood. She also taught English to Russian immigrants.
She was a graduate of Weequahic High School in Newark, attended Ohio Wesleyan and Ohio State universities, and graduated from Upsala College.
Among the many organizational positions she held included life membership and serving as a board member of both Maplewood division of National Council of Jewish Women and Maplewood Hadassah. She was involved with Friends of NJ State Opera.
Predeceased by her husband, Harvey, she is survived by her son, Robert of Byram Township; her daughter, Elizabeth (Norman) Balog of Silver Spring, Md.; and two grandchildren.
Services were held April 15 with arrangements by J.L. Apter Memorial Chapels, Maplewood.
