Deborah Leeds Solotaroff

Deborah Leeds Solotaroff (Levine), 100, of West Orange died Nov. 5, 2012. Born in Newark, she had lived in Livingston and Delray Beach, Fla., before moving to West Orange in 2007.

Mrs. Solotaroff first went to work as a teenager, leaving school at 15 to help support the family and work as a department store clerk. She subsequently worked as a secretary and bookkeeper throughout the Depression. After her first husband, an Essex County constable, died in the late 1930s, she took over his workload, serving as the only woman process-server in the area.

She was active in various Jewish women’s groups.

Predeceased by her husbands, William Leeds in 1960, and Ben Solotaroff in 1990, she is survived by her son, Stephen Leeds of Lincoln Park; her daughter, Lorna Silverman of Springfield; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Nov. 30 with arrangements by Keri Memorial Funeral Home, Lincoln Park.
