David Wasserman

David Wasserman of Springfield died Feb. 13, 2012. Born in New York City, he lived in New York and Irvington before moving to Springfield 57 years ago.

Dr. Wasserman was employed for 30 years as a research scientist at Johnson & Johnson, Ethicon Division, Bridgewater.

He earned a PhD from Columbia University in organic chemistry and worked at Yale University during World War II on the Manhattan Project.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Shapiro); two daughters, Karen Levenberg of New Jersey and Lisa Serbin of Arizona; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services were held Feb. 16 with arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union.
